Cassandra Cole’s latest release, The Grey, marks a deeply personal and transformative chapter in her musical journey. The project explores life’s “in-between” spaces—those moments where clarity is elusive, and there is no established blueprint for understanding one’s identity or direction. Recognizing that life is rarely black and white, Cassandra uses this EP to embrace the complexities of relationships, identity, and emotional growth.

Cassandra worked closely with Matt Patrick at The Library Recording Studio for the majority of the production. This collaboration proved instrumental in elevating the songs; Patrick’s ability to refine raw material while preserving its soul allowed Cassandra to lean into a stripped-down, organic sound. This honest reflection of her current artistic direction was built on a foundation of trust, as she shared the emotional stories behind each track to ensure the final results remained true to her original intentions.

The track “So Hey” was produced by Jason Hafer, who also contributed to Cassandra’s first album, Steps. Starting from a simple guitar-driven idea, Hafer transformed the piece into a full-bodied track while carefully maintaining its emotional core.

Cassandra’s songwriting often begins with basic guitar chords or a single spark of sound. Many of the tracks on The Grey originated as small, stripped-back ideas that were fully realized within the studio environment:

“Save Me”: A cornerstone of the project, this song was completed and released following the encouragement of Cassandra’s daughter.

“Friend”: Written in just fifteen minutes, this track reflects the personal experience of losing a close friendship without explanation, serving as a way for Cassandra to process silence and seek closure.

The EP navigates a spectrum of themes, including depression and redemption, ultimately seeking a path back toward the light. For Cassandra, belief, grace, and a sense of grounding became essential elements in moving forward. The Grey serves as a powerful reflection of her belief that music is a vital tool for making sense of the human experience.
